Steam Shanty Evening - 25th September

Step back in time and embark on an enchanting evening with Bodmin Railway's steam locomotive. Be serenaded by the captivating sounds of The Lemonaires from Mylor Bridge as you enjoy a scenic branch line journey. Immerse yourself in the rich Cornish heritage with songs celebrating the land, mining, and the sea. Whether you're a seasoned shanty singer or a first-timer, everyone is welcome to join in and sing along. It’s an experience that promises fun, history, and camaraderie. 

 

What to expect 

On arrival, show the order confirmation to the Booking Office who will give you your tickets and seating allocation. (If you do not have a booking of a multiple of four, please note that you may be sharing a table with another couple or party.) You can then go through into the Coffee Shop and collect your food and welcome drink. More alcoholic drinks will be available to buy on the train in Coach C.

If you have pre-ordered drinks, these will be waiting at your table on the train. If you haven't ordered any but would like to do so, you can pre-order on our website.

The train will depart from Bodmin General around 7.30pm and will travel to Boscarne Junction. Please disembark the train at Boscarne Junction to listen to the second set performed by The Lemonaires down on the grass. Please be careful of your footing when walking down the area will be lit but is still quite dark. Seating at Boscarne Junction is limited, so please feel free to bring own camping chairs. 

Lyric sheets will be handed out on the night, you can sing along as the acapella group perform their final set back at Bodmin General. Please expect the event to end around 9.00pm. Please note that this is a single branch line journey only.

Seating

The Lemonaires will be performing on the station platform and at Boscarne Junction (weather permitting). There is limited seating in both areas, so we highly recommend bringing a camping chair if you struggle to stand for longer periods of time. Please be sensible and mindful of others when deciding where to sit, do not block pathways or sit too close to the platform edge.

Rain

This event is mostly outside, so please dress accordingly. Sets performed at Bodmin General Station will be sheltered by a canopy, but sets at Boscarne Junction will not. Feel free to bring umbrellas; we will still go ahead in the event of rain. In wetter weather, we may change the running schedule slightly. 

Arrival

Please arrive at Bodmin General (PL31 1AG) 15-20 minutes before the event begins, to allow yourself enough time to park and collect your tickets. The Lemonaires will begin their first set at 7.00pm on the station platform.

Umbrellas 

We hope the sun shines and the evening stays dry, however if it is raining, we will allow umbrellas to be brought for the performance at Boscarne Junction, as this is not sheltered. Umbrellas and camping chairs can be stored on the luggage racks on the train, above your seating, when travelling.

Travelling with Friends and Family

If you wish to travel with friends and family who have booked tickets separately, please let us know in advance so that we can seat you all together.

Dogs

Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs on this particular service unless they are a service dog and it has been agreed in advance.

Parking

We have free car parking on site for customers, please note this can be rather busy. If our car park is full, Victoria Square is the at the nearest Pay-and-Display, PL31 1EB . We have limited disabled parking out the front of the station next to the canopy.
