Join us for an extraordinary journey on our Diesel Driver Experience Course, where you'll get hands-on with the iconic Class 47 locomotive, 47306 ‘The Sapper’. Known for its reliability and versatility, the Class 47 has been a cornerstone of rail history, capable of handling almost any duty. 47306, a member of the 47/3 sub-class, was designed for rail freight work and has a rich history, including stints on summer relief passenger services where train heating or lighting wasn't a necessity.  

Since joining our railway in 2007 after its mainline service at St Blazey depot, 47306 has become a cherished part of our collection. St Blazey, the hub of rail freight in Cornwall, sees nearly all China Clay freight services passing by and is the base for the Class 66 locomotives that now haul clay trains.
